11:30am - Got out of work half day so me and Marshall went surfing down at 34th street Newport Beach. I took my surf Rods with me.
I surfed for an hour and had a lot of fun. When I was done surfing I waded out just up to my knees with my surf Rod and caught three
surf perch. I was getting a lot of hits, I only fished for 15 mins. then went surfing again.

05:30am - Went out on the Western pride morning boat caught 3 bonita about 20 mackrel 2 calico bass 1 red rass.
Lots of fun. The pot winner won it on a lingcod. Went with my friend Dan. Nice day.

06:30am - Stopped by The Rail on the way to work. The tide is just below the 8 on the marker, totally glassy water, the sun is out,
this is nice. I start at the light pole, about four cast into it, I get this nice hit, it feels different. I set the hook and a have a nice one
on. I have my drag locked down, so I have to really lean into it with the rod. This fish was running and fighting different than
bass or halibut. My fishing line is old, it's going to break. I get the fish right below me and it breaks off. Not sure what it was
I think in the rock fish family. It looked to be 15 inches, I don't think I could have lifted it over the rail with my old line. That was
it, off to work. New line on both rods tonight.

06:30pm - The Rail, tide is high and going out, the fog is coming in fast. I got a few hits but no hookups.

06:30am - Fished off the jetty at the Wedge (at the end of the newport pennisula). Hooked 2 Mackral one at a time. Then fished on a little
dock down close to the wedge and hook another mackral. Then went to the rail and caught 1 bass in the boat stall. Then my friend Dan called and was
going fishing on the newport pier (10 am) Went there for only about 20 minutes. Saw people catching halibut, bonita, and huge batray about 30 inches.
Didn't have the right set up with me to fish bonita and damn does that pier stink!! Outta there. Nice pictures of the wedge early morning though.

02:45pm - The Rail, kind of windy so I went down to the bridge. Not getting any hits so I tried the other side of the bridge.
Got a couple of hits there and landed one bass.
06:40pm - The Rail, waters all glassed off, I see some bait in the water. Played around down by the bridge and caught one bass.
Moved down to the East end and caught one more bass. Fished for 45mins. I was getting a lot of hits, just missing them. I broke off once.

11:20am - Fished for 1 hour caught 3 bass all by the bridge. Water high tide moving slowly green and lots of trash. Two were good sized, for spotted
bass at the rail. Hey Rick maybe you should have a good chart for the average size of the fish caught at the rail? Nice day but no 5 fish like you

09:30pm - Stopped by rail on the way home from work. Bumped into two nice guys fishing and the said they'd been using blood worms and had caught
a few croaker the had also caught these two leopard sharks (I think that's what they're called them). They were using blood worms and swim baits.
I gave them a few of my spring grubs.Then I caught one small bass. Glad I stopped.
02:45pm - The Rail, a lot of bait in the water, tide is high and going out. First spot the bridge. I cast out a few times across the
pylons and caught one bass. I made a cast under the bridge, way back in the shade and landed three nice bass out of there.
Then I moved down to the light pole and got a few hits. I moved back to the bridge and cast one way back by the pylons,
got a big hook up, but lost it to the pylon. I caught one more bass under the bridge. Fished for 45mins and caught 5 bass

07:30pm - The Rail, tide is high, water calm, looks good. I started at the east end, got one hit. Went to the middle light pole and got
no hits. Moved down to the bridge and got a few hits, one nice one. Then on the drop of one of my casts, when I hit the bottom, I
felt a strange kind of hit, I set the hook and it felt like I was snagged in some weeds. As I reel the line I'm making ground so I'm
not snagged on the bottom, I must have some trash. Well guess what it was? An octopus, real lame to take off the hook. A few
casts later I caught a small bass. I fished for 45 mins.
07:30pm - The Rail, the tide was high and going out, it was windy. I was getting some small hits, then I got this one really good hit
and farmed it. I though I was going to get skunked and finally caught a bass. 20mins of fishing, not to good.

one hit on it. I went back to my good old apple seed grub and caught 3 small bass. Neal caught 4 bass. We fished for about 45 mins. and 7 fish, not bad.
Neal really wants a big halibut, keep fishing Neal.

07:30pm - Neal met me at The Rail, the tide was at the bottom of the 8 on the marker, the wind is calming down. I caught one small bass before Neal got
there. Just as Neal's gets his bait in the water, I nail a small halibut. Neal's talking to me and gets a hit I think, jerked his foot and kicked his coffee
mug, broke off the handle. Then Neal caught a couple of small bass and I caught another small bass. We were getting a lot of hits tonight. While
we where fishing, we say a big batray swim by, I told Neal to try and snag it. Well he did just that, lucky for him it came off. We fished for over an
hour, and had a lot of fun. Good fishing with you, Neal.

07:30pm - Me and Marshall at The Rail. The overcast came in and the water was calm, tide medium. Second cast and I landed
a nice bass. Then Marshall landed one then another one. I caught one more small bass, not bad for 15mins of fishing.

10:30am - Marshall and I went down to 30th Street jetty. I got hung up after a few casts and broke off. The beach was so
nice, I just kick it on the beach and watched Marshall boogie board. Marshall's buddy Andrew was there surfing also.

got a lot of hits, I thinks it's small bass. I landed three bass, lost one skipping him across the top of the water. I got a couple
of good strikes. It's going to get better.

15mins. and on my second cast I got a nice hit, I set the hook hard and landed this nice size bass. I moved down by the bridge

The small surf made it easy to walk the beach while casting into the surf. I was getting a lot of hits but no hook ups. I'm using a bigger hook and worm,
next time I'll use a smaller hook and bait.

09:45pm - Me and Neal off to The Golf coarse. I'm gald we went, it was one of the best times there. We kept saying one more cast and
we would leave, but we just kept catching fish. I think I caught 11 or 12 and Neal caught 6 or 7, it was hard to keep count.

03:00pm - No Fishing today. I went and laid some cash down on a new long board and wetsuit, so I had to go try it. The waves
sucked it was real windy, but just getting into the water was good. I picked my new board up at the FrogHouse in Newport Beach.
They gave me really good service and a good deal on top of that.
04:00pm - Marshall and I went down to 36th Street jetty for some surf fishing. Windy and choppy, but still getting hit. I was getting a lot of hits
then I got this really big hit that bent my rod over and I set the hook, but no good. When I reeled my line in I only had 1/4 of my worm left. Something
hit me good. I fished for 30mins. and landed two small surf perch.
05:30am - Stopped by The Rail on the way to work, the water is real glassy. First cast got a good hit, then the next cast landed a small bass.
15 mins. of fishing and landed 5 bass, that's not bad. I remember last year that fishing got better again in August and September, maybe that will
happen again.

07:00am - Took the family down to the beach for the day, 36th Street Newport. Did some boogie boarding, some snorkeling and of coarse
did some fishing. I tried to fish fom the beach, but it was hard to get out past the surf so I went to the jetty. Out on the jetty was hard because
of all the surfers, when the waves are good the surfers come out from evey where. I got a few good hits, but no hook ups. I didn't stay out on
the jetty long, I wanted to go hang with the family.

couldn't hook up. I think my hook is wrong, I changed it with a diffrent type. I'm going back to using a circle hook #8.

04:30pm - Marshall and I went down to 42nd. Street jetty. The surf is kind of big, no sand crabs so I'll use my carolina rig with
a Gulp sand worm. I fished the jetty for 45mins. and caught one croaker and two surf perch. One of the surf perch (the big one)
I lost while taking a picture. I was getting a lot if hits, then broke off in the rocks.

08:00am - Family day at the beach, went to 36th street jetty in Newport. The water is so perfect, warm and clear. There's a nice little swell so
surfing first. Well that beat me up! Ok now I brought my snorkel gear, it's still calm and clear, time to snorkel. I swam out just past the surf where
I saw a lot of corbina, surf perch, halibut (small) and small bait fish, they looked like jack smelt, they swam along side of me, kind of cool. I dove
down on some of the corbina and swam behind them, they just kept on looking for food. Now out on to the jetty, waves out getting bigger, kind
of hard to fish. I still caught one small surf perch. God I love living here. We stayed till 2:00pm

011:30am - Marshall and I went down to 32nd Street jetty. Oh my GOD the water is so clear and warm, catch any fish or not this is nice.
Fished right from the surf for awhile and got a few bites, the swimmers and boggie boarders were getting in the way. I walk out on the jetty
and using my Carolina rig with some colored beads and a 1/2 of a Berkley Gulp sandworm (Camo color). 5mins. into it I caught a nice surf
perch but pulling it up it came off. When I looked at the line I had the lame curly cue ( I lamed the knot), I tried another hook on and went
at again. I was getting a lot of hits, just not setting the hook right. I found that when I get a hit, let the fish take it a lot more than I would a
bass. I would give a lot of line when I got some hits. I caught two more perch, one I lost right at the rocks and one I landed. I was just
taking my last couple of casts when I got these hits that didn't feel like a perch, then it pulled hard and I set the hook. A small leopard
shark, I slow retrieve the bait ! it must of chased it down.
07:30pm - Went to The Rail with My friend Rich, he just got a new rod and he's been going to The Rail lately. Neal meet us there,
we fished for 1 hour and got some good hit but I'm the only one to catch a bass. Neal took a picture of the fish for me.

07:30pm - The Rail, I took my friend Robert, he's just starting out. We didn't catch any fish, but Robert had a good time. A lot of people fishing
today, everyone has been telling me that we won't be able to park in the parking lot any more soon and someone said won't be able to fish here
any more. I think the side walk belongs to the city of Newport Beach, they post the fishing sign on the light pole and fish & game patrol here. I'm
sure we be able to fish here still, but maybe not park for awhile. They will need a person to stop people from parking and that cost money. As soon
as it's slows down with traffic they won't want to pay for that. Who's going to stop me at 3:00am? Well maybe DFG for fishing past 10:00pm

05:30am - Stopped by The Rail on the way to work, just a quick 5mins. The water is real glassy, I see bait fish all over. I caught one small bass, a lot
of small fish for me lately.
10:00am - Hit The Rail for lunch, tides look good. Well only have 15 mins to fish and I needed a lot more than that. I got!! you know.

03:00pm - 36 Street jetty with Marshall, fished for an hour and not even a bite.

08:30pm - Neal and I went to The Golf Coarse and it was good. I only caught one bass but got tons of strikes I missed. Neal caught two bass, I erased
my picture from my camera by mistake. I had to big of a lure, I'll use a smaller one next time. This place is working good right now. A lot of the bass are
in 3" of water right on the shore line.
07:30am - Went by Neal's to wake him up to go surf fishing. After I got him up we went to the 56th Street jetty. I was getting a lot of hits, I think
my hook is to big. Neal said he got a hit, I need to take Neal out here again when the surf is smaller. We fished about 20mins.

03:00pm - Me and Marshall went down to thew beach, 32nd Street jetty, the surf was not that big so we walk out on the jetty. I was using
a basic Carolina rig with some colored beads and a 1/2 of a Berkley Gulp sandworm (Camo color). I'm casting right into the surf and in 20mins. I caught
two small surf perch and two yellow fin croaker.
08:00pm - Me and Marshall went to The Rail to catch it at HIGH tide. Well we stayed for an hour and it pay off with some small bass.
12:45pm - Stopped by The Rail for 30mins. onr hit one fish.

Stopped by The Rail before work. Tides low so I fished the east end. Only fished for 10mins. but caught small bass.

Lunch break, only have 15mins. started at the east end and getting hits on a slow retrieve. Then bang a small halibut, the halibut seem to hit
more on a slow to medium retrieve. Bass seem to hit more when I bounce the bait across the bottom. I moved down to the bridge and caught
a small bass. Got to go back to work.

Surf Fishing - Me and Marshall down to the beach again, 38 street jetty. No sand crabs today, just sand worms. I was getting hit s like crazy,
but not hooking up. Then I tried the east side of the jetty and landed a small Surf Perch, then I caught another one but lost it in the rocks. Check out the
Google Earth captures below of 38 Street Jetty and the surf rig, sand crab bait. I use my 6' 6" rod with 6# test line.

Went to The Rail with my friend Rich, fished for 45mins. and not even a bite. SKUNKED!!!!!

My son and I went down to 38 street jetty in Newport Beach to do some surf fishing. First we used my sand crab trap and got some nice
size crabs, filled the bucket and headed out to the end of the jetty. The surf was breaking over the end of the jetty and the tide was coming up, so I got
a little wet. I started by hooking on a nice quarter size sand crab, I had to cast out around the surfers, they were right where I wanted to cast. I worked it
around them and was getting a lot of hits. I came up twice with my crab gone. The bite stopped, so I put on a 1/2 of a Berkley Gulp sandworm, this worked
last time I was here. Well this setup works so good, in 20mins I caught 3 small surf perch and one nice surf perch. I also caught one small yellow fin croaker.
The surf is getting smaller, so I think the fishing will get better. No pictures, didn't want to get the camera wet. I'll take it next time.

Tide is at the bottom of the marker, Wind is 0 knots, Water is greenish, Sky over cast. Just a quicky before work. Got a couple of nice hits
but no fish. The fishing sucks right now, but I've seen this before. It should get better soon, not as many people fishing The Rail is nice.

Stopped in after work, big water crane lifting some old dock out of the water. I got a lot of good hits, but only landed one bass. 10mins and out.

Tide is at the bottom of the 8 on the marker, Wind is W 4-5 knots, Water is ugly green, Sky is clear. Just a 10 min. quicky, Jim and Jason are here fishing.
They said nothing yet. I fished all over and nothing. The Rail has been real slow.

Tide is at 9.5 on the marker, Wind is SW 4-5 knots, Water greenish, Sky partly cloudy. Stopped in on the way home from work, no one here. The Rail
has been not so good lately. I started at the light pole, got a few hits, then moved down to the bridge. There I caught two small bass, a few young kids
showed up and they were asking me about what plastics to use and how to use them. So I helped them out, I love getting the young kids hooked on
artificial baits.

My son and I stopped by after going to the beach, with no luck. Not even a hit. 20 mins. so were out of here.

Tide is at the 9 on the marker, Wind is W3-4 knots, Water ?, Sky clear. Running my favorite AppleSeed Spring Grub
and only getting some
small hits. Someone left some anchovies, so I put some on a hook and with a five min. soak I got a nice big hit on it. I farmed it, don't use much cut bait any more.
Not so good today, I did catch 2 bass to add to my count.

Fished for 1.5 hours and only one small bass. Not to good, no one was catching any good fish. one guy caught a couple small shark.
A week of camping at Bass Lake.
Bass Lake is 13 miles from the south entrance of Yosemite park, the water is clear and warm (73 degrees). We camped right on the
water. The fishing was not good due to the temp of the surface water, so we rented a pontoon boat one day and a 2006 tige ski boat
another day, I brought my brothers wave runner. So we had plenty of thing to play with. I brought my guns, the gun range is just a dirt
road to this back canyon. You just load up and go nuts. The water is so nice to just hang in with a drink and a float tube. Check out

09:00pm - Tide is at the bottom of the 6 on the marker, Wind is W 1-2 knots, Water clear green, Sky is clear. I took my friend Rich and
his two girls Katelyn and Lyndsea fishing. The two girls had a blast catching some small bass. I caught one small bass and a guy fishing the east end
caught a small halibut. A lot of halibut are being caught right now, that means the big ones are out there.
00:00pm - No fishing today, getting ready to go camping.
07:30pm - Ron's son and cool group of friends are here, they said they are nailing a lot of small halibut. I saw them catch some while I was
there, some small bass also. I saw some guys at the east end catch two halibut, one keeper. I caught one small bass, I didn't even want to take a picture
of it. I'm not fishing as much due to work and things. I need to setup a good half day at The Rail and jig some live bait, maybe Sunday. I going to Bass Lake
camping next week, so you won't see any reports next week.
10:30am - Tide is at the bottom of the marker, Wind is W 1-2 knots, Water clear green, Sky clear. Just a quick stop for lunch, it's hot and not
much bait in the water. I saw a bonita swim by, right after that I get a hit and land a small bass. I only have 10mins so I'm out of here.
08:30pm - Tide is at the 9 on the marker, Wind is W 4-5 knots, Water Clear green, Sky clear. Just as I pulled up a guy was bringing a halibut over the rail
and 2mins later his buddy pulled one just a little bigger, both were to small. I started at the light pole then moved to the bridge and landed one small bass. I hooked
another bass that got into the pylons and broke off. 20mins of fishing and only one small bass.

10:00am - Tide is at the 9 on the marker, Wind is SW 1-2 knots, Water green and kind of clear, Sky is clear. Just a quick stop for lunch, a few guys
fishing and they said nothing yet. I fished for 10mins. and only one hit. I'll try later today.
08:30pm - Stopped by for 30 mins. I saw two guys catch some fish, one bass and one halibut, both small. I tried all over The Rail and got skunked.
03:00am - Last night for me at work and got off a little early and stopped by on the way home. 10mins of fishing and only one small bass.
